Nearly $15,000 has been raised through the annual bell ringing campaign in Texas County.
Bennie Cook, director of the Texas County Food Pantry, said Monday afternoon $14,800 has been collected at kettles across the county. The goal is $20,000 before the campaign ends at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve.
Eighty-five percent of monies collected through the Salvation Army fundraiser remain in Texas County to assist needy people with lodging, transportation, clothing, furniture, groceries, healthcare, school supplies and more.
Cook said more bell ringers are needed to complete the final week of the campaign. To volunteer, call the food pantry at 417-967-4484.
