Houston Schools

The Houston school board made a handful of employment decisions, including the position of head football coach, during a brief meeting Tuesday night.

Convening in the new middle and high school cafeteria – which will open to students Jan. 5 – the board did not renew the contract of third-year football coach Billy O’Neil. A motion to extend his contract died without a second.

Also at the meeting, school board members:

-Accepted the resignation of Karen Parker as reading recovery teacher at the end of her current 2014-’15 contract. Parker is retiring.

-Employed Michael Weakly in the technology department for the remainder of the year.

Approved Chellsi Garrett and Veronica Douglas as substitute teachers for the remainder of the year.

-Heard information from Superintendent Scott Dill related to listing the building trades house with a real estate company.

-Approved program evaluations related to early childhood/PAT and the Career and Technical Education program at Houston High School.

The next monthly board meeting is 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Exceptional Child Cooperative.
