Devin Coulter, who graduated in 2014, received a plaque recognizing him as the Tigers' all-time leading scorer at halftime of Tuesday's game.

A strong second quarter propelled the Houston Tigers to a convincing victory in their home opener.

HHS went on a 10-0 run to open the frame and turned a one-point deficit into a 13-point halftime advantage. The Tigers cruised from there and beat Stoutland 53-33 Tuesday night inside Hiett Gymnasium.

Houston’s post players combined for 33 of their points. Kolby Walker scored a team-best 13, Keegan Spurlin added 12 and Ty Wilkins had eight.

Stoutland (0-8) went on a quick 8-0 run in the first quarter and had a one-point advantage after the opening eight minutes. But the Tigers quickly took control from there.

Walker scored seven points during the Tigers’ 10-0 run as they went ahead 21-12. The advantage reached double figures when Spurlin had consecutive baskets off the bench, and Wilkins made it 30-18 with a steal and layin.

Ahead by 10 points, Houston (2-4) stretched its advantage with a 12-0 run through the end of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth. Dylan Hooper’s steal and basket put the Tigers in front 46-24.

The Tigers’ biggest advantage was 26 points on Skylur Malam’s offensive stickback with just under six minutes left in the game.

JUNIOR VARSITY: Riley Cavaness hit three 3-pointers en route to a team-best nine points in the JV Tigers’ 35-24 loss Tuesday to Stoutland.
