Children listen to a Christmas story read by Mrs. Claus Saturday at Lone Star Plaza following the Christmas parade in downtown Houston.

The Houston Area Chamber of Commerce announced winners from its annual Christmas parade Saturday in downtown Houston.

Best of show: Northside Baptist Church, Houston.

Religious floats: Bado Church, first; and Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Houston, second.

Non-religious floats: Carnival of Freaks, Licking, first; Girl Scout Troop 70166, second; and Texas County Master Gardeners, third.

Non-religious vehicles: Glass Depot Firebird, first; Allis Chalmers tractor, second; and Don Rutherford stagecoach, third.

Mandy Adey was the organizer of this year’s parade.

“The judges were impressed with the originality and creativity of the entries. They especially enjoyed the number of different ideas that people had developed around the cinema theme,” said Brenda Jarrett, chamber executive director.

Judges were from KZ88, the community radio station at Cabool.

The chamber also had a drawing for two guns. The winner was Pattie Rust of Houston.

Children also had the opportunity to have their picture taken with Santa, and Christmas stories were read with Mrs. Claus at Lone Star Plaza.
