Cabool’s long-distance shooting proved too much for Houston to overcome.

The Bulldogs hit nine first-half 3-pointers to build a big lead and beat the Tigers 72-56 Friday inside Hiett Gymnasium.

Junior Kobe Sutton scored 17 of his team-high 19 points in the second half for HHS, which lost its first conference game of the season. He was the lone Houston player in double figures.

The Tigers were defeated 63-60 Monday by Summersville in the opening round of the Liberty Tournament. Houston (4-11) plays Alton in the consolation round at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

HHS hung close early against its Texas County rivals. Kolby Walker hit a jumper and Dylan Hooper connected from downtown as the Tigers trailed 10-9. It was a three-point game when Skylur Malam buried a 3-pointer.

But the Bulldogs went on a quick 6-0 run to begin pulling away and led 42-28 at the half.

JUNIOR VARSITY: Riley Cavaness scored 12 points and Lucas Kelley added 11 in the JV Tigers’ 53-43 home loss Friday to Cabool.

On Monday, Caleb Adkison led three players in double figures with 15 points in Houston’s 43-15 win against Summersville in the first round of the Liberty Tournament. Trevor Motzkus scored 12 and Cavaness had 10.
