The City of Houston is seeking volunteers to operate its storm shelter at Pine and First streets in Houston.

The City of Houston Office of Emergency Management is looking for volunteers to assist with storm shelter activities.  “We are looking for individuals who live within the city limits or live less than five miles outside of the city to assist with operating the storm shelter during severe weather warnings,” said Emergency Management Director Bennie Cook.

The storm shelter is open during severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings. Cook reminds the public that the City of Houston storm sirens are tested at 9:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month. If weather does not permit the testing on that day, the sirens will be tested on the following Thursday.

For more information about volunteering, call Cook at 417-967-4484.
