A two-year-old female dog recently endured an unusual saga before being rescued by representatives of the National Park Service and The Animal Shelter of Texas County.
The dog (a hound mix) had been reported running loose for many weeks near Round Spring in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways (ONSR), and was then repeatedly seen for about a week with a plastic pretzel jug stuck over its head. Park officials and TASTC representatives teamed up on more than one occasion in attempts to trap the animal.
Finally, “Sassy” as she is now called, was trapped and taken in by the shelter for veterinary and rehabilitative care, and is currently living with a foster family in Texas County.
