George Thomas Jackson, 81, passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2015.
He was born Feb. 4, 1933, in Mt. Vernon, Ind., son of George Richard and Rosetta Thomas Jackson.
He grew up in the Webster Groves area in St. Louis County and attended Webster Groves High.
He made his career for more than 47 years in the contracting business in St. Louis, owning Jackson Construction Company. He eventually semi-retired with his wife, Shirley, to the Evening Shade area, where he had a small farm and many friends.
He loved fishing, hunting and friendships developed down Slabtown Road. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s ballgames.
He made his profession of faith in Christ many years ago. He stayed committed to his love for the Lord and spoke of it to his family and grandchildren. He loved to listen to spiritual music on the TV.
He was a dedicated member of Roby Baptist Church for many years and built the first portion of the new building with his son in the early 1980s.
He is the only charter member of the Roby Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, George Alvin “Georgie” Jackson.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Shirley; two daughters, Cheryl Ann Jackson and Pamela Sue Robinson; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were Thursday, Jan. 29, at Roby Baptist Church with Pastor Phillip McGuire officiating. Burial was in Long Hollow Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
