Mildred Roderick, 90, daughter of Ivan and Bessie (Basicker) Hendricks, was born July 31, 1924, in New Castle, Ind. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 23, 2015, at Texas County Memorial Hospital, Houston, Mo.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Bessie; two brothers, Ernest and Louis Farrell Hendricks; loving husband, Delmar Jewel Roderick; two daughters, Delma Sharlene (Roderick) Head and Judith Ann (Roderick) Cruz; daughter-in-law, Betty (Massey) Roderick; son-in-law, Delbert Cruz; and infant grandson, Ronald Dion Cruz.
She is survived by one brother, Bill Hendricks of Indiana; two sons: Wayne of Upton, Mo., and Steve and his wife, Dorita, of Lebanon, Mo.; son-in-law, James Head of Licking, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Mildred grew up in Indiana and moved with her family to the Houston, Mo., area as a teen. She married her sweetheart, Delmar Roderick, in November of 1941. To this union two sons and two daughters were born, Wayne, Sharlene, Judy and Steve.
Mildred was a longtime member of Hickory Ridge Baptist Church in Upton, Mo. She received Christ as her Savior at a young age and remained faithful throughout the years to His service. She was active in the church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, church secretary/treasurer and song leader. She loved to sing church specials.
Mildred loved cooking for her large family get-togethers and everyone looked forward to her dinner rolls, chicken noodles, pies and cinnamon rolls. She was also a gifted quilter and loved to crochet. Anyone who received one of her quilts or afghans regarded it as a very special gift and knew it was made with love and care.
Mildred loves her family and looked forward to drop-in visits. She had many friends and enjoyed spending time playing dominos and doing puzzles.
Mildred was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was always looking for ways to share her love of God with her family and friends and felt hat God had given her each day to enjoy and love and live for him. She will be greatly missed, but we know that she is enjoying the beauty of Heaven and is rejoicing in the presence of the One she has so long desired to meet.
Services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Hickory Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Dewayne Weber officiating. Burial was in Hickory Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers Kevin Roderick, Kris Roderick, Keith Roderick, Les Roderick, Barry Armstrong, Steve Gorman, Tony Young, Austin Roderick, Josh Gorman and Caleb Gorman.
