Ruby Fern Vaughn, 97, passed away Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at Mountain View Healthcare.
She was born Feb. 23, 1917, in St. Louis, daughter of John Roland and Emma Pruitt Nave. She and Raymond E. Vaughn were married in 1941.
She and her husband, Ray, moved to Round Spring in 1953 to operate a general store, station and post office. They began attending the Flat Rock Church of Christ and were faithful attendees since that time.
Fern was an avid writer and worked to keep the Current and Jacks Fork rivers in private hands. Their land was made eminent domain in 1966, and they moved to the Flat Rock community.
Caring for her son, Jeffrey, was a large part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; a son, Jeffrey Vaughn; her parents; three sisters, Blanche Lacey, Margaret McCants and Mildred Nave; two brothers Viergil Geisler and John Sullivan; and a great-granddaughter.
Survivors include a son, Mike Vaughn of Flat Rock; three grandchildren; five great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.
Services were Saturday, Jan. 17, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Tad Morris officiating. Burial was in Flat Rock Cemetery.
