Sales taxes collected by Texas County merchants hit a milestone in 2014: Each half-cent sales tax generated more than $1 million. The economic news is contained in a year-end report from the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Texas County merchants collect three, half-cent sales tax. Last year, each tallied about $1.015 million. That’s an increase of about 7.2 percent from 2013 and about 10 percent from 2012. The results mirror nationwide reports of an improved economy.

In the most latest report, each half-cent sales tax netted about $82,932 in December. That’s up about 19 percent from December 2013.
