Walter Joseph Baker, 90, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2014, in Mountain View.
He was born June 23, 1924, in Grand Rapids, Mich., son of Walter and Viola Idzia) Baker. He and Violet Peterson were married Feb. 11, 1956.
He enjoyed being part of several organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts of America, VFW, St. Mark Parish in Houston, St. Philomena in Carson, Calif., and the Gardena Camera Club.
He was drafted into the Air Force and transferred to the Army. He trained in Georgia before going to Ford Mead, Md. He was stationed in the Philippines and rose to the rank of Sargent T-Y.
He enjoyed music of all kinds, trains, gardening, traveling, hiking, camping and photography.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Violet of Summersville; a son, Joseph Baker of Huntington Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Catherine Underwood of Cypress, Calif.; and a grandson.
Services were Saturday, Jan. 24, at St. Mark Parish with Father Matthew Rehraver officiating. Burial with military honors was in St. John Vianney Cemetery in Mountain View under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home.
