Zola Violett Jackson McCann, 96, of Hayward, Wisc., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015.

She was born April 28, 1918, in Turley, daughter of James Ervin and Dora Serepta Smith Jackson.

She graduated from Houston High School in 1936.

She lived in Oak Lawn, Ill., for 53 years and spent the remainder of her life with her daughter and son-in-law. The resided in Palos Hills, Ill., and then moved to Hayward, Wisc., in 2012.

She worked as a waitress most of her life and had traveled extensively. Her greatest love was her garden and canning the fruits of her labor. She shared canned and baked goods with family and friends. Many of her recipes were published in the Southtown Newspaper.

She was a member of the Oak Lawn Senior Flyer’s Club, Oak Lawn AARP Senior Club, Queen of Martyrs Church Senior Club and Houston High School Alumni.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Fredrick McCann; two sisters, Zora Saloma Post and Alice Marie Hooton; and three brothers, Clifford Albert Jackson, Lorin George Jackson and Donald Ervin Jackson.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Ringwald of Hayward, Wisc.; a stepson, Charley Frank McCann of upland, Calif.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Lorene Frangella of Oak Forest, Ill., and Bonnie Lou Carter of Bucyrus; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were Saturday, Jan. 17, at Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home in Palos Hills, Ill. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery.
