DORIS CHAMBERS

Doris LaFern Chambers (Nee Hadley), loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with her Lord at 6:56 a.m. Jan. 31, 2015, making her time on this earth 83 years, 1 month and 25 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Lawrence Hadley and Dortha Viola Hadley (nee Lawson); three sisters, Lois Maxine, who died in infancy, Georgia Jean and Ruby Delores; one brother, Lawrence Junior; one granddaughter, Joni Lynnette; one great-granddaughter, Lynnette Nicole; and her loving husband, Jerry.

She is survived by one brother, Donald Wayne and wife, Sue, of Licking, Mo.; her children, Dennis, Curtis and fiancé ,Starla Garrett, Brenda Buckner and husband, Dean, Kelley Lewis and husband, Kenneth, all of Licking, Mo., Kent and wife, Kathy, of Union, Mo., Jill Stoner and husband, Steven, of Salem, Mo., and Loretta Chambers of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and grandchildren, Shannonn, Amanda, Corinne, Mark, Jennifer, Melissa, Melanie, Eric, Meresa, Teresa, Caleb, Tony, Dennis, Michael, Courtney, Denise and Levi. She also left behind a host of great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Doris was born Dec. 6, 1931, in Hazleton, Mo., to Lawrence and Dortha Hadley. Spent her childhood attending one room schoolhouses and playing on the banks of the Big Piney with her siblings. She began attending high school in Licking, where she met her future husband, Jerry Chambers, who she married Sept. 15, 1949. They renewed their vows and reassured their dedication to each other on their 40th anniversary and remained married until Jerry passed on Nov. 18, 2011. She has missed him dearly since his passing.

Doris and Jerry traveled the United States, living in Arizona for a time and St Louis too, but Doris always returned to her beloved home town and her family.

During her adult years, Doris was a wonderful wife, mother, business owner, entrepreneur and ordained minister. She loved spreading the word of God and sharing her knowledge with others in order to draw them closer to the Lord. She always had a kind and encouraging word for everyone she met and will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

Services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at Licking Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Lloyd Ward officiating. Pallbearers were Eric Buckner, Caleb Buckner, Tony Lyons, Dennis Lewis, Michael Lewis and Mark Vandegriff. Honorary pallbearers were Steven Skidmore and Aaron Buckner. Burial was in Craddock Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
