A Houston High School social studies teacher was recently selected as the “teacher of the year” by a local district of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Jason Pounds received the award among candidates from nine different counties that comprise District 18. He was nominated by Houston resident Ruth Vaughn, who also serves as commander of VFW Post 3770 in Mountain Grove,

Pounds was recognized at a Feb. 17 ceremony in Lebanon.

“His outstanding dedication to teaching Americanism through his history classes and causing the students to think and see history from all views propelled him to the top of the selection,” VFW District 18 said in a news release.
