Mary Stensland

Mary A. Klaus Stensland, 83, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at Texas County Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., daughter of Albert and Rose Churan Klaus. She and Leonard R. Stensland were married Jan. 3, 1953.

She graduated from DeKalb Teachers College –– now Northern Illinois University –– in 1953 and taught first grade until her first son was born. As a stay-at-home mom she was involved her son’s activities, including Cub Scouts and little league baseball. She was active at her churches and other activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Albert Klaus, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard; three sons, Jeffrey, Kelvin and Craig; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many other family members.

Services were Saturday, Feb. 7, at Raymondville United Methodist Church with Maggie Kramer officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield. Services were under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
