The Houston school board unanimously extended the contracts of its three building principals at Tuesday’s monthly meeting.
Charlie Malam (high school principal) and Amy Dill (elementary principal) were each given contracts through the 2016-’17 school year. Terry Mayfield, who joined the district as middle school principal just weeks before the school year began in August, received an extension for the 2015-’16 school year.
The contract of Amber Stephens, high school assistant principal, was pushed forward one year. Also receiving an extension was Lillian Collins, director of the Exceptional Child Cooperative. Her contract goes through 2016-’17.
The board voted to table discussion of the contract for Roger Brallier, assistant elementary principal.
Also at the meeting, board members:
-Named Eric Sloan the new Houston High School head football coach.
-Employed Daniel Montomery (paraprofessional) and Amber Lange (Community Betterment sponsor) for the remainder of the 2014-’15 school year.
-Heard Becky Leier is retiring as secretary at the Exceptional Child Cooperative at the end of her current contract.
-Accepted resignations from Delinda Dixon (middle school cheer coach), Jeff Malam (bus driver) and Darren Ice (bus driver). Resignations from Malam and Ice were effective immediately.
-Approved Clint Severe, Kimberly Hutsell, David Moerbe, Susan Wood and Brittany Keaton (pending background check) as substitute teachers.
-Heard a proposal from Josh Roehrs, agriculture teacher, for a school farm to be utilized by students in his department.
-Discussed the possibility of building a high tunnel on campus with grant money from the Missouri Foundation for Health.
-Were told about the possibility of adding a school resource officer to the district through a grant that would partner with the Houston Police Department or Texas County Sheriff’s Department. Information was presented by Audrey Kell, director of curriculum and federal programs.
-Recognized high school and middle school band students who qualified for the South Central Association Honors Band. Michael Roy, band director, introduced the students to the board.
-Amended a bid sheet for summer mowing services to move the building trades house into a separate proposal.
-Made changes to a contract with VIP Properties related to the building trades house to allow the district to negotiate with individuals who previously expressed interest in purchasing the home.
The next regular board meeting is 6 p.m. March 10 at the exceptional cooperative. The open session begins at 6:45 p.m.
