Darrell Dean Shriver, age 68, son of Norman and Ruth Shriver was born at home May 28, 1946. Darrell, his son Carey Dean Shriver and his daughter-in-law, Valirea Shriver, were all taken from this earth on February 27, 2015.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Ruth Shriver.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Martha Shriver; his daughter and son-in-law, Dara and Aaron Gulick, of Spokane; his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Philip Guy, of Forsyth; and his sister, Freda Schmidt, of Rolla. He also has six grandsons, Caleb Gulick, Joshua Gulick, John Shriver, Nathan Guy, Noah Gulick and Nickolas Guy; and two granddaughters, Kayla Shriver and Hannah Gulick.
Darrell graduated from Summersville High School in 1964, Missouri State University with a degree in Industrial Arts in 1968, and followed later with a masters degree from Drury University. He taught briefly in Cabool.
He first used his education to build houses in the Houston area. Later, he opened Shriver Companies Cabinet Shop which he expanded to include general contracting.
His interests included keeping every piece of old car, truck and farming equipment he ever owned, running a car dealership in Springfield, and putting up hay on his farm.
Darrell’s first loves were family and farming. He began farming with his dad, Norman, and expanded his farming with his family throughout his life. Darrell managed his cattle with the help of his wife, Martha, who knows all the names of the hundreds of cows on land extending from Springfield to Summersville. He worked with his son, Carey Dean, and daughter-in-law, Valirea, in the multi-business operation.
Despite Darrell’s busy life, he always made time for his children and grandchildren. When he wasn’t working, he loved singing, playing the piano and entertaining his six grandsons and two granddaughters.
Darrell and his wife Martha belonged to Nagle Christian Church, Tyrone, Missouri.
He will be missed by all his family and friends.
A memorial visitation is 2-6 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Faith Fellowship. A private family service and burial in Nagle Cemetery will be held at a later date.
