Bags of flexible heating and cooling ducting and boxes of ceiling fan louvres bearing the Shriver name await installation in the new Texas County 911 headquarters at the county administrative building in downtown Houston. The call center construction project was being handled by Carey and Darrell Shrivers' Shriver Companies LLC, but county officials indicate will not be affected by the recent tragedies in Tyrone because a relative has committed to fulfilling the contract.

Despite the murders of two men who were integral parts of the construction of the new Texas County 911 headquarters, county officials said work will continue as scheduled.

The project is overseen by Shriver Companies LLC of Elk Creek, a firm run by Darrell Shriver and his son, Carey Shriver. The men were among seven people killed in last Thursday’s shootings in Tyrone.

Texas County Presiding Commissioner Fred Stenger said a relative of the Shrivers and his company in the Springfield area have committed to honoring the contract. Stenger said the bulk of remaining work would be done by Turn Key Drywall and Painting LLC, out of Solo.

“They were hired by the Shriver Company, and they will continue to do the majority of the work,” he said. “Heating and air conditioning is, I think, the only specialty we might have any concerns about and that’s being addressed.”

Associate commissioner Linda Garrett said the county commission had talked with the Shrivers the day before they were killed to discuss a few changes and compromises in the project.

“They gave a little and we gave a little,” Garrett said. “But you could tell their minds were set on doing the best job they could.”

“They kind of looked at it as their name was going to be on it,” Stenger said.

Construction at the center is expected to be completed later this month.
