A newly released study on the health of Missourians shows Texas County ranks 98 out of 114 counties.
TheĀ rankingsĀ are based on a model of population health that emphasizes the many factors that, if improved, can help make communities healthier places to live, learn, work and play.Ā It was performed by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Clinic care in Texas County ranks 100th in the state. Uninsured residents total 21 percent. Statewide, the figure is 16 percent.
Here are breakdowns within the category:
ā¢Primary care physicans (1,985 residents to 1), Dentists (6,409:1), mental health providers (2,331:1), number of preventable hospital stays (76), diabetic monitoring available (80 percent) and mammography screens, (52.2)
About 30 percent of the populace has poor or fair health āĀ compared to 16 percent statewide.
The foundation study also looked at health factors:
ā¢Adult smoking (31 percent), adult obesity (32 percent), physical inactivity (35 percent), access to exercise opportunities (46 percent), excessive drinking (11 percent), Alcohol-impaired driving deaths (17 percent); sexually transmitted infections (233) and teen births, (56).
The report also looked at social and economic factors:
High school graduation (87 percent), some college (41.5 percent), unemployment (6.8) percent, children in poverty (38 percent), violent crimes (81) and injury deaths (89).
