New census figures out last week show most counties in south-central Missouri lost population over the last year.
Texas County and two others were the only ones to show any population increase. Texas County’s population was 25,642 on July 1, 2014, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That’s up only five from the same period a year ago.
Shannon County saw its population increase 44 to 8,329. Douglas County’s population grew 83 to 13,546, the agency said.
Results were down for other area counties:
•Dent, 15,655, down 111.
•Howell, 40,173, down 125.
•Laclede, 35,439, down 201.
•Phelps, 44,847, down 89.
•Pulaski, 53,436, down 307.
•Wright, 18,291, down 139.
