Military veteran

Thomas Andrew Nunn, 83, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015, at Select Care Hospital in Springfield.

He was born July 22, 1931, in Millcreek, son of George Sherman and Mamie Marie Alvey Nunn.

He joined Army on May 11, 1949, and served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was honorably discharged on May 31, 1973. He was a member of the Sentry Dog Detachment 8125. He was later responsible for the training of dog handlers in many different countries.

During 24 years in the Army he received numerous awards and commendations; Bronze Star VN Campaign Medal with 7 Stars, VN Service Medal, Civil Affairs Medal, VN Honor Medal, Good Conduct, Army Occupation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 1 Cluster, King of Thailand Dog Badge, National Defense Medal and Korean Service Medal.

After retiring from the Army, he returned to Beulah

He held various offices of the Licking VFW Post 6337 and Licking American Legion Post 559 as well as the Disabled American Veterans. He most recently was serving as quarter-master of Licking VFW Post 6337 for the last six years.

He loved playing bingo on Friday nights at the Licking VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth May Wynn Schettler-Nunn in 2005; a brother, Arthur Sherman Nunn; and four sisters, Sylvia May Nunn, Mary Ellen Turner, Lucy Ann Moore and Sarah Jeannie Nunn.

Survivors include four stepchildren, Harold Jr. “Bubba” Schettler of Licking, Debbie Campoy of Farmington, Calif., Sher Goossen of Elk River, Minn., and Terri Simonsen of Manteca, Calif; eight step-grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren.

Services with military honors were Saturday, March 14, at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Gidcumb officiating. Burial was in Beulah Cemetery.
