The Easter celebration in Texas County began Friday morning as hundreds of believers lined U.S. 63 from Cabool to Licking with life-size crosses.
Crosses were held every quarter-mile in the annual ‘Carry The Cross.’ At 7 p.m., a special service was held inside Hiett Gymnasium with founder David Craig as well as music from One and The McCunes.
On Sunday, area churches will hold special Easter servics and events. Among celebrations planned in the area are:
•First Baptist Church, 1241 Hawthorn Ave., Houston: Simon Peter will present his story from a small-time businessman to a world-changer for God beginning at 10:45 a.m. Special music also is planned. For more information, call 417-967-2297.
•United Methodist Church, 422 Hawthorn Ave., Houston: There will be a sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. following by a potluck breakfast in the fellowship hall. For directions to the service, contact the church office at 417-967-2372. The morning worship service will begin at 10 a.m.
•Faith Fellowship, 7804 Highway 17, Houston: “Sunday Is Coming” is the theme of the Easter service, which begins at 10:30 a.m. Along with contemporary and traditional worship, there will be a drama performance and message from Pastor Bill Villapiano celebrating the greatest event in history. A photo booth and free print will be available for every family.
•United Methodist, 151 Junction St., Raymondville: A sunrise service will be held at Golden Hills Lake. The morning worship service begins at 10 a.m. The church is also hosting Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services at 7 p.m. those days.
•Ozark Baptist Church, 17490 Ozark Road, Houston: 8 a.m. sunrise service followed by breakfast at 8:45 a.m. The Easter service begins at 11 a.m.
•Life Church, 1010 Indian Creek Trail, Houston: The morning worship service, which will include worship, specials and a skit, begins at 10:45 a.m. The message from Pastor Nick Melton will be “Finding Resurrection Power.” An Easter egg hunt will be held for children.
•Souls Harbor, South U.S. 63, Houston: Dr. Cordie Wimberley will present the message “Evidence for the Resurrection” during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Special music will be provided by The Gourleys. A goodie bag and treats will be provided for all children.
