Jack Bernau

John Justin (Jack) Bernau, 73, the son of Justin John and Stephanie (Zielinski) Bernau, was born Dec. 28, 1941, at the hospital in Elkhorn, Wisc. Jack was saved on Aug. 29, 1973, and he went to be with the Lord on April 3, 2015, at his home.

He taught at Houston R-IV Schools from 1985 through 2006. He was a graduate of Wisconsin State University in Whitewater, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Keith Bernau. He is survived by his sister, Terri Kropetz; and his brother, Brent Bernau.

Jack married Claudia Ann Wolter on Nov. 10, 1963, in Albuquerque, N.M. They have resided in Houston, Missouri since 1976. They have three children, Rosalind (Rosie) M. Bumgardner, Cynthia R. Walker and Sheldon F. Bernau. Rosie is married to J. Scott Bumgardner. They live in Groveport, Ohio, and have four children, Victoria Elizabeth, Jonathan Scott, Veronica Marie and Jesse Sean. Cynthia is married to Mark A. Walker. They live in Terre Haute, Ind., and have one daughter, Amelia Rose. Sheldon is married to Lisa D. Norris Bernau. They live in Pensacola, Fla., and have two children, Diana Joy and Benjamin Forrest.

Jack and Claudia are members of Central Calvary Baptist Church in West Plains, Mo. God graciously used Jack to win some precious souls to Christ. He was grateful to God for His mercy to him and his family. Jack, his wife, children and grandchildren have all been saved in Christ. Jack was self-employed most of his life. In addition to teaching, he painted barn roofs for families in Texas and Wright counties. He was very concerned for the souls of others and made it a point to ask others about Christ and share tracts about inviting Jesus into their hearts.

Services were 11 a.m. Monday, April 6, at Central Calvary Baptist Church, West Plains, Mo., with Dr. Frank Mulford officiating. Burial was in Arthurs Creek Cemetery in Houston, Mo. Pallbearers were Burl Owenby, Allen Maunu, Loyd Mitchell, Derrel Wages, Brad Cardwell, Bob McPherson, and Billy Joe Cawthron. Honorary pallbearers were Max Wolter, Ben Grace, Brent Bernau, Terry Tallman, Keith Bridwell and Terry Kunselman.

Memorials may be made to the Gideons, Hospice Compassus or Central Calvary Baptist Church, 4607 State Rt. CC, West Plains, MO, 65775. Services were under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. On line condolences may be sent to www.evansfh.com.
