Janice Pauline Nickels, 64, passed away Friday, April 24, 2014, in Wood River, Ill.
She was born May 19, 1950, in Granite City, Ill.
She was raised in the Granite City, Ill., area until her family moved to Montauk. She graduated from Licking High School in 1968. She attended cosmetology school in Rolla.
She spent many years as a hairdresser and later taught at the Parkway Beauty Academy in West Plains.
She enjoyed fishing, camping and floating the Current River. She loved barbecue and seafood. In her later years, she enjoyed crocheting gifts.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Sandra Jean Graham and Donna Sue Evanoff.
Survivors include a son, Jason Nickels of Raymondville; two sisters, Freda Byrd of South Roxanna, Ill. and Tina Paris Licking; and many other family members.
Services will be postponed until later in the year when her family will gather for a celebration of her life and family barbecue in her honor as she requested. Arrangements were under direction of Fox Funeral Home.
