Sylvia Maybell Vandevort Cook, 81, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Texas County Memorial Hospital.

She was born Aug. 24, 1933, in Raymondville, daughter of Monta Joshua and Mary Elizabeth Brashears Vandevort. She and Lloyd Jefferson Cook were married Dec. 26, 1950.

She was a member of Valley Center Baptist Church, where she was baptized. She taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and helped in any way needed.

She worked as shade marker at Angelica and was also a homemaker and mother.

She enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; her parents; a brother, Leo Vandevort; and two sisters, Laura Robinson and Agnes Smith.

Survivors include her children, Larry Cook, Lois Cook, Sandra Briggs, Carol Hawkins, Danny Cook, Sonia Clark and Loreta Smith of Hartshorn and Rosemary Jackson of Raymondville; a sister, Billy Cook of Hartshorn; a brother, Bob Vandevort of Cabool; 25 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

Services were Tuesday, April 21, at Valley Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Van Kirkwood and the Rev. Steve Steelman officiating. Burial was in Valley Center Cemetery in Hartshorn under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home.
