Holding his prized Union Army soldier's belt buckle, Houston resident Bill Nichols sits in his home surrounded by his collection of Civil War artifacts, all found at the site of a sizable Union Army encampment in Houston.

The Texas County Genealogical and Historical Society will host Houston Civil War expert Bill Nichols during a meeting Friday.

The 1 p.m. meeting at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Houston will feature Nichols’ large collection of Civil War antiques, items and articles found in this area.  He is an expert about the war in this region.

The public is invited. “If at all possible, don’t miss seeing these many Civil War items he has found by long hours of looking, walking, digging and talking to others,” says Phyllis Masters, vice president.

The public also is encouraged to bring Civil War items to the meeting.
