The spring firearms turkey season concluded Sunday, May 10.

Hunters in Texas County killed 858 turkeys during the spring firearms season that ended Sunday, the Missouri Department of Conservation reported.

That was the second highest in Missouri. The leader was Franklin County with 897. St. Clair County placed third with 771.

The breakdown in Texas County was: adult gobblers, 681; juvenile gobblers, 171; and bearded hen, six.

The county’s kill in 2014 was 899. Other years: 879, 2013; and 803, ’12.
