Superintendent Scott Dill said Houston Schools will take the necessary time to fill two leadership vacancies in the staff roster.
Dill said interviews are ongoing for the positions of elementary principal and head high school boys’ basketball team. The school board met last week in regular season and Monday in special session.
“I anticipate closure on one of those positions probably within the next week,” Dill said on Friday. “Obviously as an ongoing personnel decision we can’t say more at this point.”
The elementary principal position was vacated in late March when Amy Dill was named the new director of the Exceptional Child Education Cooperative. The basketball position became available after second-year coach Rob Coffey resigned at the April 14 board meeting.
“Our goal – and my philosophy – is to take the time and hire the right person for the job,” Dill said. “We aren’t going to rush into a hiring just because there is a vacancy.”
Dill said he considers both positions as leadership roles within the district.
“We are looking for those leaders who can impact our kids not only academically and athletically, but on a much deeper level and help them move forward in their lives,” he said. “These are the most important tasks building administrators and board members have.”
