Military veteran

Edward J. Zander, 95, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Licking Park Manor.

He was born Sept. 5, 1919, in St. Louis, son of Frank and MiMi Zander. He and Mary Jane Merrell were married in 1944.

He was raised in St. Louis. He enlisted in the Army on Feb. 28, 1941, and served in World War II. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands.

He and his wife, Mary, raised two sons in the St. Louis area. After hisretirement from Lincoln Engineering (now Pentair), he moved to Licking to live near friends from the Missouri Trout Association.

He lived 29 years in Licking. He was an active member of St. John Catholic Church as well as the local VFW post. He considered Licking his hometown

He enjoyed fishing, turkey hunting and road trips across the country.

Survivors include two sons, James of Wisconsin and Thomas of Washington; four grandsons; one granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral mass was Saturday, June 27, at St. John Catholic Church with Father Matthew Rehauer officiating. Burial was in Licking Cemetery under direction of Fox Funeral Home.
