Rita Delynne Hicks Peek, 71, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015, at KC Hospice House after a brief illness.
She was born July 4, 1943, in Houston, daughter of Stanley and Hazel Miller Hicks.
She grew up in the Clara community and attended Houston High School. She lived in Sedalia and Kansas City prior to moving to Peculiar.
She retired from Sears Corporation after 23 years of service. She owned Rita’s Precious Creations ceramic shop until her death.
As a child, she was an active member of the Hightown 4-H Club and continued being involved throughout her lifetime. She was involved with the Cass County 4-H Club. She had a special bond with her grandson Austin.
She enjoyed crafts, gardening, playing bingo and cards along with spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father and a son, Donald Stevenson.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Richard Peek; a son, Stevenson of Peculiar; her mother, Hazel Hicks of Houston; three siblings, Richard Hicks, Rowena Moore and Rose Ward of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, in Wolford Cemetery with Paul Murray officiating. Local services are under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
