The Houston Rural Fire Association hosted a motorcycle poker run fundraiser last Saturday.
Houston Rural Fire and Rescue Chief Don Gaston said close to 50 bikes were entered, with about a third carrying a passenger.
Fort Leonard Wood resident Angel Marrero turned in the top hand of a full house and won $150, while Regina Walker, of Bucyrus, won $75 for three-of-a-kind. Houston resident Julie Chipps won $500 in a raffle.
“This was just the nicest group of people you could imagine,” Gaston said. “We were really impressed by the way everyone said how much they wanted to help us.”
Gaston said proceeds would go toward new rescue equipment, and discussion has begun about a similar event next year.
