The following are excerpts of reports generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
•A deputy was dispatched at about 5:40 p.m. July 18 regarding a report of possible interference with custody at a Date Drive residence at Summersville.
A 31-year-old man who lives there told the officer his 5-year-old son had been taken away without permission by a 67-year-old man and a 59-year old woman who were reported grandparents of the boy. The father told the officer they had physically pulled the boy from his arms and left to a location in Shannon County.
The deputy made contact with the man and woman and advised them to bring the child back. After further investigation, the officer was told by Shannon County authorities that the boy would remain with the grandparents until the man they took the child from proved he was the father.
Child support paperwork was faxed to Shannon County, but authorities there reportedly claimed that was not enough proof. Investigation of the matter continues, and a report was sent to the county prosecutor.
•A deputy was dispatched at about 7:45 a.m. July 5 regarding a report of property damage at Boiling Springs resort on Highway BB west of Licking.
Upon arrival, the officer made contact with a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper and the owner of the resort, and determined a man had been very drunk the previous night and had been driving up and down the road telling people he was going to beat them up. A witness reportedly told the deputy the suspect had punched two other men and they had knocked him out twice because he kept coming at them.
Chase D. Mings, 25, of Ash Grove, was issued citations for peace disturbance by fighting and second-degree property damage for using his vehicle to create ruts and other damage in the resort’s camping area. After he was cited, a woman took Mings to Texas County Memorial Hospital for treatment of wounds sustained when the two men he assaulted repeatedly hit him in retaliation.
•A 37-year-old Houston man reported July 11 that his soon-to-be former wife had scrapped a car of his without his permission.
An investigating deputy made contact with the 34-year-old woman, and she stated that the car (a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier) had been parked at her residence at a Morton Road trailer park and it was gone when she arrived home from work.
Investigation of the matter continues.
•A 66-year-old Licking man came to the TCSD office July 10 to report that a .16-gauge shotgun and a box of shells had been stolen from his Cadle Road residence.
The man named as a suspect a 24-year-old Licking man who he had hired to cut logs on his property.
•Zachary D. Sims, 24, of 20750 Mounty Drive at Licking, was issued citations for stealing under $500 and first-degree trespassing after allegedly swiping a two-spike hay carrier from 59-year-old man’s Highway 32 residence July 10. A deputy investigating another case went to Sims’ residence and observed the equipment.
•A deputy was dispatched at about 2:15 p.m. July 13 after the manager at the Corner Express gas station in Licking reported someone beating on the ATM machine. The manager provided license plate information to the officer for a white minivan with two suspects inside and requested that a no trespass order be placed on the vehicle’s two occupants. The Licking Police Department was notified.
•A woman called July 9 to report her son had left her weed-eater at a former girlfriend’s residence at a Highway E trailer park. An investigating officer went to the residence and obtained the weed-eater. The woman came to the TCSD office and retrieved it.
•Nicholas Jones, 23, of 18100 Highway B at Houston, was issued a citation for third-degree domestic assault after allegedly assaulting a 47-year-old woman during an altercation at his residence at about 10:50 p.m. July 10.
•A man called at about 7:10 p.m. July 13 to report he was walking on Highway U and someone was following him. An investigating officer was unable to locate the man.
