Lloyd Briggs, 93, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015, at Mountain View Healthcare.
He was born Aug. 1, 1921, in Akers, son of George and Carrie Helton Briggs. He and Florence Nadine Riley were married Sept. 12, 1946, in Houston.
He grew up in the Akers and Hartshorn areas. He worked in St. Louis when he was younger then returned to Hartshorn to live. He worked at the rock quarry for a while before working at different pallet mills in the area.
He loved going to the Current River Opry in Summersville on Saturday nights. He enjoyed riding through the woods and picking up cans. He especially loved playing with his grandchildren and all the little kids that came around.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florence Briggs; a son Joie Briggs; four brothers, Arnold, Vernon, Aubrey and Wayne Briggs; five sisters, Wave Reynolds, Rose McQuinn, Thelma Pearson, Audrey Shoults and Geraldine Derryberry; and a great-grandson.
Survivors include four daughters, Edna Briggs of Hartshorn, Wilma Evans of St. Peters, Imogene Terrill of Raymondville and Bernadine Hohlt of Success; a sister, Maudelene Purcell of Salem; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were 10 a.m. Friday, July 31, at Bradford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Arvel Schweighauser officiating. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery.
