Sturgen Lavern Lewis, 66, of Desoto, Ill., passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau following a battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 13, 1948, in Eunice, son of Steve and Jeffie Duncan Lewis.
He attended school in Summersville and graduated in 1967. Shortly after graduation, he went to work at the George O. White Nursery in Licking. He retired from there in 2002.
He was a lifelong resident of Texas County before moving to Desoto, Ill., in 2004.
He loved music and singing. He enjoyed working in the garden and yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two half-brothers, Bill and Willard; and a daughter, Jessica Marie.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara of the home; three daughters, Tara Beth Dooms of Springfield, Gina Raper of Lees Summit and Lucinda Lewis of Kansas City; a son, Cory Lewis of Independence; two stepdaughters, Kelly Richards of Murphysboro, Ill., and Melba Weller of Carlton, Minn.; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a brother, James Elvis of Pendleton, Ore.; a sister, Pat Miller of Houston; and numerous other family members.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
