The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall and Museum will be moving through Texas County this afternoon.

Along with the Missouri Highway Patrol, American Legion Post 639 (Vietnam War Memorial Post) ALR, Rolling Thunder Chapter 1 and numerous veteran groups will be picking it up in Thayer at 11:45 a.m., July 8, and arrive the Post 639 headquarters in Springfield (2660 S. Scenic Drive) at about 4 p.m.

On the way, the transport group will pass through Cabool on U.S. 60. Organizers expect 200 to 300 motorcycles and several vehicles to join in the procession.

“We would love to have a large local participation from the communities along our route that include Thayer, West Plains, Willow Springs, Cabool, Mountain Grove, Mansfield and Rogersville,” said Post 639 commander Mike Goforth. “It would be outstanding if we could have the local firefighters, police officers and citizens with flags and banners on overpasses and roads as we roll through.”

The transport group will be moving at approximately 50 mile per hour, so Goforth figures it will go through the Cabool at about 1:30 p.m.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the Vietnam War. To learn about the wall’s online fundraising campaign, log onto www.gofundme.com/FundtheWall  or the Facebook Event page http://m.facebook.com/50thAnniversarywallLZ639.
