A Texas County man died of a self-inflicted gunshot following an incident Tuesday night in Wright County.
Along with two deputies, Sheriff James Sigman and Lt. Wes Campbell responded at about 7:30 p.m. to a request for assistance from Wright County Sheriff Glenn Adler regarding a shooting on Wall Road just south of Mountain Grove.
Campbell said the suspect lived in Texas County, and had shot another man with a 9mm pistol.
“The bullet grazed his chin,” Campbell said.
The four TCSD officers met with Adler at the crime scene, and then headed toward the suspect’s residence on McCall Road.
“On our way there, we got a call indicating he was back over on Wall Road,” Campbell said. “We turned around, but by the time we got back – which was about two minutes later – he had shot himself in the head. He was still breathing when we got there, and we did our best to bandage him up while we waited for an ambulance.”
Campbell said there was talk of airlifting the suspect to a medical facility, but there wasn’t time, so he was being driven to Texas County Memorial Hospital.
“It’s my understanding he died on the way there,” Campbell said.
Dead is 65-year-old Ferlin L. McCall, of Mountain Grove. Campbell said Wright County Coroner Ben Hurtt took possession of his body.
A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper also assisted.
