Revenue from the City of Houston's sales tax was up in Houston in the latest distribution, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue. 

Revenue from a one-cent sales tax collected in Houston was up about 15 percent from the same monthly period a year ago, the Missouri Department of Revenue said.

The total was $53,863, which was an increase of $5,852 from the same period a year ago.

For the first seven months of the year, collections total $414,423, which is up about 4 percent from the same period in 2014.

Two quarter-cent sales taxes earmarked for roads, sidewalks and utility work — each totaled $13,165, up $1,752 from the period a year ago.

An eighth-cent sales tax that generates funds for fire truck debt repayment totaled $6,582.
