Piney River Brewing Co., in Bucyrus, will host a fundraiser for the Houston Education Foundation (HEF) on Saturday, Sept. 5, at the BARn Tap Room.
HEF board members will be at the BARn from 2 to 7 p.m. selling bratwurst and hot dogs to raise funds for the local charity, which benefits students in the Houston School District. Piney River will donate a portion of all pint sales from the day to HEF.
Houston Schools Superintendent Scott Dill and school district musical professionals will sing and play for tips that will also be donated to HEF.
Piney River brewers Lucas Clem and Stacey Uchtman have brewed two specialty apple beers that will be released exclusively for the benefit: “Teacher’s Pet,” highlighting the flavor of apples in an easy to drink ale, and “Apples in the Fall,” featuring the flavor of apples and spices commonly found in apple pie or apple butter.
The event is free and open to the public, including families. Andy’s Homemade Root Beer is a non-alcoholic option available at the BARn.
The mission of the HEF is to promote education excellence and opportunity beyond the scope of the Houston R-1 school system by generating financial resources from private funds to provide support for educational programs. Most recently, HEF provided funds for new computers in the district’s new media center, and HEF has in the past purchased desks, music equipment and art display cases.
