The Missouri Department of Conservation will conduct its annual hunter education in Texas County Oct. 17.

The Missouri Department of Conservation will conduct its annual two-part hunter education program this month.

The “knowledge” portion of the course can be completed online, in a classroom or by obtaining the MDC hunter education book at the library. The “skills” portion of the course is set for 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 17, at Faith Fellowship (on Highway 17 about four miles west of Houston).

Prospective hunters must complete the knowledge portion before being admitted to the skills portion.

Key points about MDC hunter education:

•People born on or after Jan. 1, 1967, must satisfy Missouri’s hunter education requirement before purchasing deer and turkey hunting permits.

•Adults aiding in youth hunts are required to be hunter education certified prior to the hunt.

•Students must be at least 11 years old to participate in the hunter education program.
