Houston High School junior Abby Casper represented the Lady Tigers in Class 2 District 9 with a selection to the second team of the volleyball all-district team.
Casper, a 5-foot-6 outside hitter, had five kills and 11 digs in Houston’s two district matches. She was 15-of-16 serving –– including a pair of aces –– and was 16-for-17 receiving.
“I was pleased with her second team selection, especially considering the talent that was in our district and our semifinal appearance,” Lady Tigers coach Barry Wheeler said.
Casper moved positions this year in Wheeler’s first season with the program. Previously a libero, Casper was given an opportunity to have a bigger impact offensively.
“Abby is a complete player for us,” Wheeler said. “She has been one of our top passers and servers and has now added a threat as a hitter. We had Abby in every receive formation and moved her across the net to utilize her hitting ability versus a variety of blockers.”
Liberty, which won the district championship, had seven selections on the team. Four were on the first team.
Cabool, which advanced to the finals, had three picks. Alyssa Matherly and Sarah Luallen were first-team selections and Kara Matherly was named to the second team.
Houston and Willow Springs both had one selection apiece on the 12-player team.
