Smoke rises from the smoldering remains of a single-wide mobile home that burned to the ground Tuesday morning north of Houston.

A single-wide mobile home was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning in the L&R Trailer Park on Northview Lane north of Houston.

Houston Rural Fire Department Chief Don Gaston said two trucks and six firefighters responded to the blaze at about 6 a.m., but it was too late when they arrived.

“I think it was on the ground before we got called,” Gaston said. “Our response time was short after we got the call, but it obviously went in a hurry.”

Gaston said witnesses reported hearing an explosion before the fire broke out, and that the trailer’s two occupants got out unscathed.
