A proposed expanded library for the Cabool branch of the Texas County Library.

The Texas County Library Foundation last week gave approval for design work as it nears seeking bids for an estimated $485,000 expansion of the Cabool branch of the Texas County Library.

Members approved a $34,000 contract with Integrity Engineering Inc. of Rolla for the work. The firm was involved earlier in construction of new branch at Summersville. Once bids are let, construction is expected to take nine-12 months.

The foundation earlier this year won a $250,000 Community Development Block Grant that will pay for a portion of the work. Donations and assistance from the Texas County Library Board will pay the remainder of the costs. An application also is pending with the Missouri Department of Economic Development’s Neighborhood Assistance Program, which would make the project eligible for state tax credits. Word is expected by year’s end.

The foundation elected members and named officers at its meeting. Sally Smith and Audrey Barnhart, both of Houston, were re-elected to posts. Rounding out the board are: Joni Appleton, Summersville; Peggy Holder, Houston; Gwen Ross, Eunice; Linda Roberts, Licking; Brad Gentry, Houston; Florence Cartwright, Cabool; Terry Jones, Cabool; and Janet Fraley, Houston. Molly Shelton is the director of the county-wide system. Officers are Jones, president; Gentry, secretary; and Fraley, treasurer.

The group recognized the efforts of Kent Williamson of Cabool, who resigned due to relocating outside the county. He was the long-time president.
