Glen Edwin Jeffries, 86, passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield.
He was born July 23, 1929, in Bucyrus, son of Jess and Minnie Biram Jeffries.
He joined the Marine Corp in 1951 and was a Korean War veteran. During his tour in Korea, he was one of many wounded. He several medals, including the Korean Service Medal with 2 Stars, United Nations Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Purple Heart Medal.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior while stationed in Korea.
He attended Licking High School and began working summers at the young age of 16 in the wheat fields of Kansas. He then worked at the Fort Leonard Wood Post Exchange. He worked several years in the construction of new homes for McDonald Construction and Hathaway Homes in St. Louis and Lonnie Sullins Construction of Licking. He retired from Rawlings in Licking.
He was a longtime resident of Licking. He cared for his parents on their family farm for several years before moving to town, where he resided until his health would not allow.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, auctions, bingo and sports. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved spending time with his family and helping those in need.
He spent his last days suffering from Alzheimer’s losing a lot of his memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Leota Mitchell;
Survivors include four sisters, Aweda McDowell of Licking, Bonnie Noah of Jackson, Betty Conant of Wentzville and Sharon Antonich of Pevely; two brothers, Jerry Jeffries of Barnhart and Paul Jeffries of Licking; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are noon Saturday, Nov. 14, at Fox Funeral home. Visitation is 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Graveside services with military honors will be in Craddock Cemetery.
