A Bucyrus woman faces three felony weapons charges and is held in the Texas County Jail on $500,000 bond following an investigation of a shooting incident last Friday.
The case began when a deputy was dispatched at about 11:30 a.m. regarding a man at Texas County Memorial Hospital who had suffered an accidental gunshot wound to the foot. The man, 27, told the officer he had recently purchased a 9-millimeter pistol and had removed the magazine but forgot to check the chamber for a bullet.
He stated he accidentally pulled the trigger and shot himself in the top of his right foot.
During continued investigation, the man confessed that his report was false and it was his wife who had accidentally shot him when they were arguing over getting a divorce. Contact was made with the woman, and she declined to share information in an interview at the TCSD office.Â
Probable cause statements were sent to the county prosecutor seeking felony counts against the woman and she was charged Monday with second-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon against the woman – Heather Shelton, 27, of 9749 Burton Branch Road in Bucyrus.
County authorities also submitted a probable cause statement seeking charges against the unnamed man of felony hindering prosecution and misdemeanor filing a false report.
