Known as “Bud” to everyone, Lewis Eugene Pounds was born in Clay County near Corning, Ark., on Oct. 14, 1929, to Lewis E. and Nora E. (Winingar) Pounds. Bud passed on Dec. 4, 2015, at Cox South Hospital.
He married Mable Sheaffer on May 29, 1952. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary this year.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; two siblings, Emily Creely and Mildred Kautzman; and his brothers-in-law, Joe Creely and Gene Malam.
He is survived by his wife, Mable; siblings, Julius Pounds, Lillian Malam, Tilitha and Joe Waicekauskas, and Barkus and Carolyn Pounds and brother-in-law, Fred Kautzman; his children, Loretta and Robert Edwards, Steven and Judy Pounds and Craig and Julia Pounds; his grandchildren, Ashley Edwards, Ryan Edwards and Kyle Clippinger, Leah and Dustin Carter, Nathan and Nicole Pounds, Joshua Pounds and Hannah and Gregg Hull; his great-grandchildren, Ethan and Elijah Carter; and two foster great-grandchildren.
Bud wore many hats during his life. He was a manager at the Houston MFA for over 20 years, a farmer, milk route driver, president of the Wolford Cemetery Association for 40 years, president of the Houston Rural Fire Association for 20 years and served in the Army during the Korean War.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8 at the Evans Funeral Home with Nathan Pounds and Gregg Hull officiating. Pallbearers were Nathan Pounds, Joshua Pounds, Ryan Edwards, Kyle Clippinger, Dustin Carter and Gregg Hull. Honorary pallbearers were Leah Carter, Nicole Pounds, Hannah Hull and Ashley Edwards. Burial will be in Wolford Cemetery with services were under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
