HHS Lady Tigers coach Brent Kell huddles his team before its game Monday night against Licking.

A strong third quarter propelled the Houston Lady Tigers to an easy victory against their rivals.

Houston senior Shelby Cremer puts up a second-half shot Monday against Licking.

Behind a 20-3 run following the half, HHS turned a close game into a blowout and cruised to a 65-41 victory Monday night against Licking inside Hiett Gymnasium.

The ninth-ranked Lady Tigers (7-2) started slow and only led by five at the break before pulling away.

“I wasn’t very nice at halftime,” Lady Tigers coach Brent Kell said. “I didn’t feel like our intensity was where it needed to be.”

Junior Abby Casper led three HHS players in double figures with 15 points. Kaitlyn Root scored 12 and Sarah Kelley had 11.

Houston jumped ahead 18-9 after the first quarter and led by 11 points on Shelby Cremer’s offensive stickback.

But Licking scored 11 of the final 18 points of the second quarter to trail 26-21 at the break.

Casper hit a triple and Jaydin Ramsey had consecutive baskets to jumpstart the third quarter as the Lady Tigers began pulling away.

“We’ve got to put together 32 solid minutes to get where we want to be,” Kell said. “We can’t have the lulls we’ve been having.”

On Friday, HHS was outscored 26-16 in the second half en route to a 51-44 loss at Norwood.

Kelley scored 11 points as the only player in double figures.

JUNIOR VARSITY: Chloe Hunninghake hit five 3-pointers – all in the first half – and scored 19 points in the JV Lady Tigers’ 59-47 win Monday against Licking.
