A single-wide mobile home on Ridge Road east of Houston sustained major damage in a fire early Sunday morning.

Personnel with the Houston Rural Fire Department responded to a fire early Sunday that caused severe damage to a single-wide mobile home.

Houston Rural Fire Chief Don Gaston said two pumper trucks, a tanker and eight firefighters were called at about 2:15 a.m., and successfully saved about half of the home.

Gaston said his crews’ jobs were made harder by metal roofing covering original roofing.

“We had to peel back a bunch of it so we could get to the fire,” he said.

The home’s lone occupant, James Hardwick, was uninjured. “He got a lot of stuff out of the west end that didn’t burn,” Gaston said.

Gaston said the fire appeared to have started in a bedroom on one end of the trailer – perhaps originating in a breaker box.
