The Houston Lady Tigers took step No. 2 toward their preseason goal of a conference championship.

The Lady Tigers overcame a sluggish start with 29 second-quarter points and cruised past Ava 66-47 Monday night inside Hiett Gymnasium.

Abby Casper led three HHS players in double figures with 15 points. Sarah Kelley and Kaitlyn Root added 12 points apiece.

Houston managed just four points in the first quarter and trailed 5-4. But behind their fullcourt pressure, the Lady Tigers picked up the tempo and turned a one-point deficit into a 33-22 advantage at halftime.

The Lady Tigers (10-4) are 2-0 in the South Central Association going into a tough matchup tonight (Thursday) with Willow Springs. The teams split their previous two meetings this season with each side winning by three points.

JUNIOR VARSITY: Chloe Hunninghake hit five 3-pointers to lead the JV Lady Tigers past Ava 47-35 Monday night.

Alyssa Hayes added 10 points –– all in the first quarter.

On Friday, Hunninghake had four triples and 16 points in Houston’s 40-11 victory against Summersville.

Ally Morgan added 12 points for the Lady Tigers.
