Houston and Cabool players gather - in special T-shirts - at the conclusion of Monday night's game.

Kaitlyn Root led four players in double figures with 16 points as the Houston Lady Tigers snapped a two-game losing skid Monday with a 61-35 road victory at Cabool.

Sarah Kelley and Alyssa Hayes added 12 points apiece for HHS. Abby Casper scored 11.

Houston, which lost its final two games of the Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament to finish fourth, took control from the get-go against its Texas County rivals. The Lady Tigers (9-4, 1-0 South Central Association) raced ahead 13-2 after the first quarter and cruised to victory in their conference opener.

Kelley grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Casper had five of the team’s 18 steals.

The game – hailed as “play for a cure” – was a fundraiser for the fight against cancer. Proceeds were given to the family of a young girl, Paisley, who is battling leukemia.
